TRENDS FOR SPRING 2020 AND HOW TO SAVE $$$:
Do you have a spring wedding planned for 2020 or 2021? The Spring Season is March 21st through June 20th. Are you thinking about the new trends? This post is to inform you on what is happening in the wedding industry for Spring of 2020. These same trends can still be applied to weddings throughout 2020 and into Spring of 2021.
EMBRACING NATURE AND BEING AWARE:
Utilizing an outdoor location and seeing the pure beauty of the natural world that surrounds us, is a great way of incorporating nature into your special day. A park or garden are great examples of outdoor spaces. Hosting your wedding at an outdoor venue has its own pure beauty. Have your guests focus on the overall beauty of your event space and omit the use of flowers for your ceremony as this helps to reduce the cost of your wedding budget. If you are looking to utilize flowers, look around at local artists or locations that grow flowers onsite such as Lavender Waves Farm in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.
SUSTAINABILITY:
SUSTAINABILITY:“Going green” has been on everyone’s mind. But how can you incorporate this into a wedding? One way to be sustainable for your wedding is to choose a location close to home. A destination wedding can be gorgeous, but consider having your wedding at a nearby venue, lake, church, or garden. The memories are still going to be the same: surrounded by family; receiving love and congratulations; and dancing the night away! Consider picking a venue that can host both your ceremony and reception. This minimizes emissions, and any extra transportation that you may have to purchase. Another sustainable idea is having your menu be eco-friendly. Find a caterer and florist who are local and support other local businesses. See if they can create meals and bouquets that are organic. If you are thinking about purchasing your own flowers, look into what is in season. Right now there are roses, tulips, lilacs, daffodils, daisies, orchids, violets, peonies, pansies, azaleas, forsythias, irises, cherry blossoms, poppies, pussy willows, dahlias, amaryllis, sweet peas, zinnias, and most types of lilies. The last idea in making your wedding sustainable is to have your favors be something interactive for your guests. Charity favors have recently become popular. You can have three to four shadow boxes with you and your partner’s favorite charities (pictured above). Guests take a poker chip, wooden heart or something else that is small, and choose which charity they want you to donate to. For each item, in each box, you can donate a specified amount of money to each charity. You can also donate money to the charity that had the largest amount of items in the shadow box.
CENTERPIECES:
Centerpieces are always an eye catcher, and do not require flowers to look amazing! Go to your local second hand store. Pick up an array of glasses, votives, and vases that can be the center for your centerpieces. Add glass marble gems, water, floating candles, waterproof lights, and mirrors to amplify the centerpieces. This will also help to save money on your budget!
SMALL BUSINESSES:
For centerpieces, invitations, favors, and extra decor, explore Etsy, ArtFire, and UncommonGoods. Many of these sites support local, small businesses. RenzRags, which can be found on Etsy, is one of the many great places to purchase a dress for your wedding, bridesmaid, mother of the bride or mother of the groom. When sourcing a wedding dress look into the production of it. Identify who is making your dress and where it is coming from. Small businesses can also help in sourcing items for DIY creations. These same businesses can help with putting them together.

There is an assumption that manicures and pedicures are only for women. As of this year, more men are treating themselves to these services for their wedding day. Men are also investing in skin care services before their big day. Are you looking to save a few dollars on hair and skin care? One way to do this is to go to a hair academy or massage school. The average cost for hair, makeup, and facials is $60-$200. If you go to a hair academy or massage school you will most likely pay half the cost of these services, and look just as beautiful!

FASHION: BRIDESMAIDSSo you have all the essentials for your big day. What about the bridal party? What are they going to wear? For bridesmaids there are many different shades to pick from. Colors change every year and season. The most popular bridesmaid dress colors in style for 2020 are mauve pinks, reds, dusty blues, lavender, and light greens (seafoam green). The style and fabric for these dresses are also changing. For Spring of 2020, the new crepe black satin, found at David’s Bridal, has been a hit. This fabric is metallic looking and allows the bridesmaids to shine a little bit more than with a classic chiffon dress. The style of dresses that are in this year are light and airy. Bridesmaids are taking on a whimsical look. Another popular inclusion for these types of dresses is having a slit up one side of the dress, exposing the leg. Ruching in the arms of dresses has also been a popular inclusion and fits all body shapes.
FASHION: THE BRIDE
Your dress is one of the most important items on your wedding day. You should feel comfortable and beautiful in it. A great alternative to spending $3,000- $5,000 on a dress is to use your mother’s, or grandmother’s wedding dress. You can revamp it with alterations and make it into your own, but still have the “Something old, something new” aspect.

Brides are using floral patterns on their dresses instead of just plain white lace. These colored floral prints add a nice “pop” of color to the traditional white dress. Another fashion trend that is coming in style is the use of ruffles and puffy sleeves. These can be tied together in a dress, or by themselves. Both of these new styles add a new whimsical flare to the dress. Many wedding boutiques are also starting to add white pant suits to their inventory. A pantsuit is a great alternative to a dress, and may even come with a detachable train.
In recent years, long veils have lost their luster. Short veils have become very popular including the birdcage style and cap. The cap veil sits low on the back of your head. You can also wear this type of veil under a low bun. Textured and embellished veils have become very popular. If you have a simple dress or a traditional long veil, wearing one of these will add some pizzazz. Are you still not a fan of the veil? An alternative to this would be headbands, head pieces, and flowers.
FASHION: THE GROOM, BEST MAN, AND GROOMSMEN
There are more choices for men now, then ever before. Gone are the days when men wore a simple suit in black, navy, or gray. These are still great options, but things have changed. Colored or velvet suits, and color blocking with ties is popular. Brocade has also been in high demand for weddings. Many men are choosing to wear khakis and slim fit pants that are cut above the ankle. Loafers have made a comeback as the preferred shoe. Detailing on shoes isn’t just for the ladies anymore. Hand-painting and embroidery on men’s shoes have become a new luxury.
